Vathres- Makrirachi Natural Pools

The natural pools are located in the Karavoma–Kavouria area of Makrirachi, approximately 1.2 km from the Makrirrachi–Zagora junction.

Access

The spot is easy to identify, as an elevated irrigation channel passes overhead. You can park your car nearby and follow the dirt road that winds through a beautiful forest of towering chestnut and beech trees.

At the end of the dirt road (about 1 km), you will reach a left-hand bend. Continue for approximately 30 meters and then turn right. There you will find the lower pool, the largest in the area, with water depths reaching up to 4 meters.

The Natural Pools

Locals refer to the two pools as Big Vathra and Small Vathra. This stunning natural attraction is ideal for hikers, nature lovers, and adventurous visitors who wish to take a swim in its crystal-clear, ice-cold waters.

Alternative Routes

• For hikers, the pools lie along the route connecting Hania with Karavoma and Makrirrachi.
• Alternatively, you can leave your car at Karavoma and follow the road towards Volos. About 30 meters past Karavoma, turn left and continue towards the pools.
