Description
Dovas Home Cooking is one of the most popular and traditional family taverns in Horefto, Pelion, known for its emphasis on authentic, handmade home-cooked food. Operating since June 2019 on Horefto beach, it has managed to stand out for its hospitality and unique Pelion recipes.
Philosophy & Concept
The restaurant is run by the family of chef Giannis Dovas, who has been cooking since 1989. The unique feature of Dovas Home Cooking is that it does not rely solely on a fixed printed menu. Instead, guests enter the indoor area, where there is an open display window with the fresh dishes of the day. There, the staff explains the available dishes in detail, allowing you to choose based on visual appeal and your preferences.
Menu & Specialties
The kitchen combines seafood, Mediterranean, and traditional Greek dishes, using pure, local ingredients.
The signature dish: Zucchini or zucchini blossoms stuffed with bechamel made from donkey milk, which is milked daily from their own donkeys.
Pelion flavors: Traditional spetsofai with eggs made just like the chef's grandmother used to cook it, handmade herb pies, as well as slow-cooked meats (such as pork shank, lemon goat, or baked lamb).
Seafood & Fish: Fresh grilled sardines, anchovies, grilled seafood, and the shop's famous seafood pasta.
Salads: The namesake Dovas Salad, which stands out for the addition of flaxseed and traditional petimezi (grape/fruit molasses) made from Zagora apples (Zagorin).
Location & Atmosphere
The restaurant is situated in a prime location on the beach road of Horefto, offering outdoor tables with a beautiful view of the sea. The atmosphere is warm, friendly, and deeply family-oriented, reminiscent of a Sunday dinner at home.
