Metochi | Chorto

Description

The village was built in the period of Turkish occupation, rather from sharecroppers of the monastery of Panagia (assumption), which is located outside the village and which was formerly a dependency in the great monastery of Ag. Nicholas of Pau. This is the most probable reason for naming the village Metochi itself.

Lower than this position and just above the grass have been spotted ruins from a previous settlement, which during the local tradition burned the turks. thus, It is speculated that the first settlers of Metochiou may also have been the inhabitants of the afanismenoy of that Settlement. Older products of this place were wheat, barley, flax, figs, Wine and Olives. But today the economy is based on agricultural products, especially olives and oil.
